With all the scrutiny about Wall Street these days it's curious that not more attention isn't given to the common and unethical practice of "painting the tape". I have become very aware of this practice in one particular company I own. It has happened on the downside and the upside and while some individuals may benefit from the painting I think it's a practice that should be officially banned. Perhaps the SEC is busy with more important matters but many small investors are continuously hurt by this vulgar practice, and violators should be punished.
