State of the Race

Romney is stll the GOP front runner even after last night's less than impressive Michigan victory.  Let's face it folks the guy is a total corporate creep but he will be going up against Obama. No other way the Republicans can go since Rick Santorum in the course of a few short weeks threatened to bring down on them a huge defeat, and relegate the GOP to the party status of "no-nothings".

Still it matters not who the Republicans pick for after watching the President address a bunch of UAW workers yesterday there is no way the guy is going to lose the election.  Obama was on fire and when he wants to he can give a hell of a speech.  He had the crowd on its feet cheering.  Romney is done.  Put a fork in him.

I do hope that Santorum will soldier on and I'm sure he will.  He is so much fun even if he doesn't seem to be enjoying himself very much with that pained joyless expression etched on his face,  He really is such a jerk in those dorky sweater vests that sometimes I just LOL at the TV when he comes on. Truly a nut case.

Before Super Tuesday Newt Gingrich is bound to make some more noise since he is being banked rolled by this Las Vegas casino billionaire (no folks can't make this stuff up), and Ron Paul is still in the hunt. I really wish Paul were not such a dope on fiscal matters because I really agree with his foreign policy and world view.  The continued military presence of US troops in other countries is ridiculous and costly.  We give billions of dollars in military aid to allies like Israel who then threaten to use that military might against our wishes.

Gotta admit these guys put on a good show!!

Anger Politics

Why I ask is Rick Santorum even remotely attractive to any sane voter.  The answer I think rests in the fact that one must be insane to vote for Ricky.  Perhaps that is a reach but certainly angry.  There are angry voters out there that want to hear somebody say the outrageous things said by the like of Ricky. They hate Obama with a passion and want somebody who will "tell him off".  They want somebody like that horrible woman who is the governor of Arizona who wags a finger at the President.  These anger voters are at heart racists who have not gotten over the fact that Obama is bi-racial but commonly referred to as "black".  To be sure, these folks like the fact that Santorum dissed a college education.  For the most part these people are ignorant and resentful of anyone with intelligence. Couple this anger with religious fanaticism and you get the base of Santorum's support.  A dangerous mix for Willard.  Should be real interesting tonight if Romney loses Michigan.

Is Santorum serious or just plain insane?

Readers know that I have been on a Santorum tear lately, ripping into the former Senator from Pennsylvania.  However, yesterday Ricky went off the deep end proclaiming that in essence there should be no separation of church and state.  Never mind that the "separation" tenet has been an article of American faith since the beginning of the Republic. Ricky also proclaimed that the speech given by JFK in 1960 outlining his belief in the separation of church and state made him "throw up". Is this guy nuts?  At this point I really believe that Santorum has serious mental issues.

Santorum the MORON

Well it seems that I can't stop writing about Rick Santorum. But really folks he is such an easy target. Every time this jerk seems to open his mouth he says something incredibly stupid.  It seems Rick the  Pious objects to Obama's notion that people should at least have a chance of going to college.  The Pious one thinks this is a horrible idea since colleges and universities are the known breeding grounds for secular indoctrination.  Ricky boy thinks Obama is a snob for wanting to get people educated.  It there no end to his insanity!!!  Well Ricky if Obama is a snob for pushing for education, you are a no-nothing MORON. And for your information Ricky, I went to Fordham University and entered as a devout Catholic and graduated as an agnostic.  Go figure Rick?

Next Tuesday

It's time to predict the outcome of the Michigan and Arizona primaries that will take place on Tuesday.

In Michigan I think Willard will eke it out, and he will win big in Arizona.  The results will once again make him the front runner, but the race for the GOP nomination will be far from over heading into Super Tuesday.

All this really doesn't mean much because I think these guys have so damaged themselves in the estimation of anyone with a brain neither Romney or Santorum can win a general election.

Have a good weekend!!

A National Disgrace

I tried.  I really tried to watch the Republican debate last night.  Alas, I could not stomach it, and turned it off at the initial intermission.  First off, I hate the introductions which are more befitting a football game than a serious political and social discussion,  Whatever happened to Kennedy vs. Nixon!  Then when these fools started mouthing off I felt as if I was in the twilight zone.  Is this the best our country can put forth?  The rest of the world must be howling.  Anyway here are my candidate impressions up the point when I turned it off.

Romney looked tired and is so over coached by this handlers that I'm sure the man does not have a sincere belief on anything.

Santorum is a very unappealing guy.  Always looks mad and constipated. The biggest creep in politics.

Gingrich is just plan nuts!

Paul is equally as deranged as Gingrich.

That's the field folks although I do think Chris Christie has other ideas.  The Fat Slob is waiting in the wings and it's hard to miss him.

Happy Lent Mr. Rick

Rick Santorum must be ecstatic today. It's Lent.  The 40 days when all devout Catholics do penance leading up to the Resurrection  of Jesus Christ.  If  I remember correctly during Lent the rules of the game for Catholics became even more restrictive. Wednesday became meatless in addition to Friday.  You were given little alms cups in which you were to place a daily offering for the poor. It was a period of fasting and perhaps most importantly you were to deny yourself some pleasure for Lent.  Like giving up ice cream or not going to the movies or smoking weed.  You get the picture.

Now Santorum is a self-proclaimed devout Catholic so I hope a curious reporter asks him what he is planning on giving up for Lent.  The more fashion conscious among us may hope he stops wearing those horrible sweater vests that make him look like a fat-assed jerk that can be found every Sunday passing around the collection plate at church.  But alas, that won't happen.  I think Mullah Rick as Maureen Dowd calls him in a great column, will likely proclaim that he is giving up sex for Lent and urges all of his followers to do the same. Really Rick think of the publicity you would get for making such a bold proposal.  Happy Lent Mullah Rick!!!

Burn them at the stake!!!

Every day comes a new statement from GOP Presidential candidate Rick Santorum that convinces me that the man is a religious lunatic. What else can explain his wildly weird statements about women's contraception and his latest ruminations about Obama not governing according to the Bible?  Really folks this is strange stuff and just think he stands a good chance of getting the nomination.  I'm waiting for Rick the Righteous to pronounce that all those who do not believe in Bible teachings should either by stoned or burned at the stake.

American Blacklist

I watch MSNBC virtually all day and really appreciate their political coverage.  My current liberal state of mind finds much to appreciate in the commentary offered by the channel and their many interesting guests. One person has been missing from MSNBC line-up in recent months -Pat Buchanan. To be sure, I found much of his commentary ridiculous and the man obviously has many prejudices.  Still he is a student of history and I have read some of his books and enjoyed them.  And, speaking of books, it seems that Buchanan published one last year that lots of people didn't like.  They said it was racist, homophobic and worst of all anti-Semitic. Folks raised such a fuss that they got Pat suspended from MSNBC, and yesterday axed him completely.

Now Pat Buchanan is probably guilty of the transgressions that are alleged.  However, is Pat Buchanan not allowed to express his views?  Maybe we don't like them.  Maybe we don't want to admit that many points he brings up may be a little right?  Anyway I think it sucks that blacklisting still exists in this country.  Fortunately thanks to the Internet folks cannot really be silenced these days and I for one hope Buchanan continues to speak his mind.  May disagree with it, but still would like to hear from him.

Michigan's Primary

Just a few short weeks ago after the Florida primary most commentators, including myself opined that the Republican nomination fight was over and that Mitt Romney was the assured nominee.  Today however, that is not the case as Romney has had a horrible time of it since his win in Florida. A series of horrible campaign gaffes and a surging Rick Santorum have made Romney a very weak front runner if he can even lay claim to that title since many national polls now have Santorum ahead.  Accordingly the upcoming primary in Michigan looms as a potential turning point in the Republican presidential sweepstakes.  Michigan has long been considered Romney territory.  His father was once governor of the state and Romney considers himself a home boy. Yet recent polls show Santorum with the edge in the state.  If Romney does lose Michigan it will be a major blow to this campaign and would actually make Santorum the likely GOP front runner.  How lucky can the White House get??

Bloomberg's NYC

In the city for the day and already I'm ready to bitch!  You take your life in your hands in attempting to cross a street in the West Village owing to these out of control bicycle riders.  Really folks I've had it. Why aren't these terrorists on wheels made to obey the traffic regulations?  Why don't the cops ticket them?  Bloomberg has encouraged this madness in expanding the number of so-called bike lanes and in general being a big advocate of the bike. He also likes to tell us not to smoke and what we should eat and drink.  Afterall, Mayor Mike is very concerned for our health and well being

Well I have news for his royal highness your encouragement of cyclists and your refusal to more effectively monitor their behavior is more dangerous to my health that a cigarette and a cheeseburger!

Santorum is a lousy Catholic

To be sure, Rick Santorum is insane, but he is also a lousy Catholic.  Notwithstanding wearing his religion on his sweater vest and obsessing over sexual issues the former Senator from Pennsylvania by other measures is a lousy Catholic.  As the linked article clearly depicts Santorum runs counter to the beliefs of Catholic bishops on some very important issues.  Santorum is a dangerous nut who knows he can't be elected president but is hoping for some rich payoff after all the smoke clears.

Rick Santorum

I really get a kick out of those that think that Rick Santorum is a serious candidate for president. There is no way he could ever get elected.  He nothing more than a sullen, scolding, sanctimonious sourpuss.

JFK

I never cared much for John F. Kennedy.  I thought he was a terrible president. To be sure, in those days I was a rabid Republican and most Democrats in my opinion were horrible.  However, even in my youth my disdain for JFK was something special.  I always thought he was a phony and the whole "Camelot" mystique just a bunch of garbage.  Now it's revealed that while in the White House JFK was banging a teen age intern.  Of course he was always a randy sort with women being sneaked in and out of the White House but he must have taken special delight of robbing this intern of her virginity.  Marilyn Monroe was one thing but a sweet teen had to be pure delight.

It should be remembered that when JFK was shot he was in Texas on a political trip because his prospects for re-election were poor. The economy was beginning to weaken and unemployment was rising. Of course we always hear about how wonderful he was during the Cuban missile crisis when I remember thinking I was going to be incinerated at any moment.  Never mind that it had to come to that because of his foreign policy which included the failed Bay of Pigs fiasco.  So Chris Matthews can write all the books he wants about what a hero JFK was, but to me he will always be a failed president who couldn't keep his zipper shut.

Religious Fanatics

If there were no religious fanatics in the world we would all live happier lives.  Just think of it. Radical Islam fundamentalists have polluted the world with terrorism and the most unholy of regimes like in Iran where they threaten to destroy other countries with nuclear weapons. The Catholic Church tolerates child abuse and seeks to intrude on the rights of non-believers with archaic dogma. Need I mention the Inquisition where people were burned at the stake?  Fundamentalist Jews oppress and degrade women.  I could go on and on but I think you get the point. I guess the fact that so many people are religious is the hope that there is an afterlife which of course is open to lots of doubt.  I'm all for making things better on this planet and that would happen if religious fanatics got lost.

Catholic Nonsense

Well it seems that the Catholic Church is very upset at the Obama Administration because of it's insistence that Catholic institutions offer contraceptive coverage in their health care plans.  Right wing nut cases are yelling about this being part of Obama's war on religion. Again the Catholic Church finds itself in the forefront of hypocrisy.  First there is no "war" on religion.  This is just a fantasy of Fox News and other idiots.  While Catholic teachings only permit  abstinence or "rhythm" for both control it's widely known that the vast majority of Catholics practice other means of birth control. Remember when the Church even opposed the use of condoms for a means of preventing the spread of AIDS?  Perhaps the Church should spend more time investigating the molestation of children rather than using bogus issues to pollute the political environment.  Of course if they want to get politically involved they should also lose their tax exempt status.  Imagine how taxing the Catholic Church would help in reducing the deficit.

Iran

We all have been having a good time watching and commenting on our national political show.  Meanwhile a huge storm is brewing off shore that could prove the undoing of us all.  Iran is reportedly close to producing a nuclear weapon and this does not sit well with Israel.. As the linked article from the Washington Post outlines Israel is close to launching a military strike against Iran.  Once that happens the US becomes involved.  Folks this one is dangerous so enjoy the Super Bowl this weekend.

Ebenezer Romney

To tell the truth I am not surprised that Willard Romney is not concerned about the very poor.  I often find that those with two loaves of bread under each arm don't give a crap about the plight of those who go without.  Particularly for the children.  Of course, Romney also enjoys firing people and drives to Canada with the family pooch tied to the roof of his dork mobile.  This is truly a horrible man. When I heard of his "poor" comment yesterday I immediately thought of the scene from Dickens' Christmas Carol where Ebenezer Scrooge is approached by men seeking aid for the poor.  Of course Scrooge refuses to give citing the " social safety net" of the times like the work houses.  At any time in the health care debate I fully expect Romney to declare that the sick should die so health costs can be reduced.  Accordingly, from this point on when I refer to Romney he shall be called Ebenezer.  What a creep!!

It's Over

Last night's Florida primary settled things.  Willard Romney will be the Republican nominee for president.  How utterly delicious.  After beating their chests like cavemen conservatives for the past two years the Republicans will put forth a guy that we all know is not a conservative.  Just look at the record and one can see that at  times Romney acted and voted very much like a Massachusetts liberal.  Serves Eric Cantor right!!!

Romney is destined to be a footnote to history.  Obama will destroy him and I hope he does a good job.  There is something about Romney that disturbs me greatly and just can't put my finger on it. All I know is that I want someone in the White House who makes secular based decisions and not ones colored by personal religious beliefs.  On another note I was happy to see Newt Gingrich get his fat ass kicked in Florida.  He hit a new low when he accused Romney of denying Jewish seniors kosher meals.  The linked Milbank story on Newt is a must read.
