Good Riddance

The passing of Antonin Scalia this past Saturday is no great loss in my opinion.  In fact I think it's a great development for the country. Long term readers know that I have been embarrassed by the fact the Scalia and I were both first generation Italian Americans.  I thought he gave us a bad name by being a poster boy for reactionary causes and in many cases hateful decisions.

Scalia was a hard core right wing Republican and made no attempt to hide his political leanings.  Appointed by Reagan he was the darling of right wing nuts.  Scalia was no friend of equal rights for women or gays.  He was a front man for the NRA and was contemptuous of environmental concerns.  He was a devout Catholic and his religious bias colored many of his decisions. I believe the Supreme Court will be better without him and so will the country.
